Final Filming Session - Not An Asteroid - 16/03 Rant

Today was our final filming session where we had to revisit the interrogation and chase sequence. Majority of the time was spent teaching Niro how to hold a gun, this was reminiscent of the poor attempts of Niro trying to punch Chris, poor kid doesn't know how to throw a punch yet :(

The interrogation scene took about 14 takes in only a long shot, this was due to me stopping as Niro kept thinking he was Jesse James or something holding the gun with a certain misguided swagger. I swear, i'm invoicing Niro and Chris after for the acting lessons I gave them.

The chase nearly tragically ended, leaving all hope for an A when I broke Niro's bag in the grab. However, Chris rekindled the fire by fixing the bag bringing back hope into our hearts.

It was nearly over, about 8.30 we were hungry (Chris only had an Aero bar the whole day), we were tired and above all getting lazy. We remembered the token of wisdom Michael gave us stating we need to film all variations of shots in order to ease editing, this added to wear on our tired bodies as we carried on filming like the soldiers we are.

Overall, today was a productive session and it was all summed up by Niro requesting a group hug at the end, to which of course me and Chris politely refused. It was full of references to Niro's acting through 1964 Clint Eastwood, Niro thinking he was John Dillinger, Usian Bolt and my Kanye Westesque pep rally rant "Let's get this A".

4th session - Folding/wind fail

10th February session -
There was a struggle the whole time filming this session. We tried to emulate a dead body through using our bags, the bag for the tripod and a painting sheet.  As you can see through the failed attempt of Chris and Niro tryinng to fold the sheet back up at the end of the sequence, it was clearly a struggle. Overall, the session was good. I had my Jimi Hendrix time to shine, and we managed to start a chase scene. We had the odd acting-through-adlibbing issue of having to film me and Niro having an exchange however no script.

Sunday, 2nd February - Opening Scene Progression

Problems and on top of more problems seem to be stacking considering the rather unpredictable London weather. Unfortunately, due to the temperature being 5 degrees outside and our costumes not quite fitting the requirements for a cold London night, filming time had to be cut down. However, this time we had a good session as the cameras were actually charged and an extra light on deck. The light saved us from the seemingly ineluctable doom of Chris and I saying at the same time "It might be too dark." Extra shots were created out of next to nothing by the team and for that I consider today a productive contribution, prognosticating a cheer from Mrs Thrasher!

Lesson 4

Here we had feedback from the teacher that we are going to take into consideration

Lesson 3

In this lesson we worked on uploading our first footage and expanding our storyboard providing more detailed information such as the camera shots, the rough script and on screen positions.

The detailed information was useful in planning our second shoot as well

We also gathered the props and further discussed what else would be appropriate to the sequence which we required such as our crime scene evidence ; finger print duster, form of criminals identification and the crime scene tape. we also discussed what each character would be wearing, reviewing the time period of our sequence and the characters involved we decided the main detective should be wearing the classic long coat with the stereo typical coffee and smart shoes, his partner would be wearing smart casual clothes and the dealer should wear casual dark clothing, we then did a diagram in detail of the props and clothing (shown below.)

Lesson 2

In our second lesson  we reviewed our basic storyboard making some minor changes to the type of camera angles we would use and the type of shots we would use.

We also discussed the location in detail, looking at The Kingsnimpton estate, the Cambridge estate, Richmond park, Wimbledon village and the south field estate. we then concluded that our best decision was the south field estate, as it was beneficial to the types of camera shots we wanted to use. Most of our locations were based on or around the estates, we thought this would create the correct atmosphere we needed and the correct use for the overhead/bird eye view shots for our big chase scene.

we then began planning our first shoot : Put picture here!

Lesson 1

In our first lesson we brainstormed some ideas for our opening sequence, discussing the genre and the scenes we wanted within the sequence.

The genres we discuss included :
-action
-crime/mystery
-sci-fi

we decided on the crime and mystery genre as we already had some ideas for that specific genre, we then brainstormed again the ideas for different scenes and potential props we could use. This was then further interpreted into a basic storyboard highlighting the main scenes we wanted and eliminating the scenes which were either too cliche or did not fit in with our story line.

The other genres were considered, however we did not choose them because they too common in the filming society, we wanted to film something different, making our film more unique and enjoyable.
